Measure Your Effort Downhill

The project‘s goal is to measure the power and energy consumption during downhill mountainbiking.

The effort an athlete has to bring during going downhill shall be put into measurement values and characteristic numbers. Conclusions on downhill skills, bike setup and fitness parameters shall be derived. Focus is given to keep the complexity of hardware and installation low to provide the final product to the many.
Sensor System and Setup
Three acceleration sensors are mounted to acquire measured data. The sensor at the handlebar is getting the impacts over the arms and the sensor at the seat post those over the legs and bottom. The sensor at the helmet is getting the values of the remaining movement.
The smart phone can act as a logger or forward the values as a BLE sensor itself to a bike computer. The resulting values can be post-processed as any other power values in watts.
